Nordic Dialogues

Advantages of being dyslexic

2026–2028 | Sweden · Norway · Finland · Denmark

A Nordic participatory art and research project exploring dyslexia through lived experience, sound, storytelling and collective creation.

What can we learn from each other when we share our experiences of dyslexia across borders?

3 million people in the Nordic countries live with dyslexia.

Advantages of Being Dyslexic – Nordic Dialogues is a participatory art project exploring how dyslexia is experienced and understood across the Nordic region.

In 2026, Julie Nymann travelled to Finland, Norway and Sweden to meet and form connections with people with dyslexia, artists, researchers, educators and dyslexia organisations.

These encounters have created strong connections and form the foundation for a collaborative art project that develops through research, workshops and interviews.

Over the coming years, the project will develop through intimate workshops, conversations and peer-to-peer interviews.

Participants share positive, difficult, unique and unifying stories about learning, language, difference and belonging.

Their voices, stories and reflections become artistic material for new sound-based, performative and immersive artworks.

Although the Nordic countries are closely connected, they have different languages, educational systems and approaches to dyslexia and inclusion.

The project brings these perspectives into dialogue, exploring both what we have in common and where our experiences differ.

Through research, expert exchange and lived experience, knowledge and perspectives meet across artistic, educational and dyslexia communities.

The workshops create spaces where participants can share experiences, listen to one another and develop new ways of perceiving and understanding dyslexia.

Advantages of Being Dyslexic – Nordic Dialogues grows out of encounters, conversations and research trips in 2026 across the Nordic region, supported by Nordic Culture Point’s Mobility Funding and Nordic Culture Fund’s Opstart.

These first connections now form the foundation for a wider Nordic artistic dialogue.
